Serving Opportunities

Woodlawn has a long history of service in Derby and the surrounding areas. If you are looking for ways to serve inside the church walls or wondering how to get out in the community, we can help you find a place that best suits your gifts!

Join a Woodlawn Team

Though many parts, we are one body. We rejoice with and for each other. We encourage and build each other up. We bear each other’s burdens. The following are ministries of pastoral and congregational care at Woodlawn.

BUNDLE OF JOY

In celebration, Woodlawn welcomes each baby with a rose and a special basket.

CARD MINISTRY

This team quietly offers support to our members by sending special cards. It is our way of letting members know we are thinking about them.

CARING CALLERS

A compassionate caller reaches out to members who are unable to attend worship services.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY

Children’s Ministry is always looking for folks who love children and wish to serve either in a classroom with sharing a Bible story, music, arts and crafts, mentors, as an aide, helping with snack time, etc. Contact Caitlin Ott to see where your gifts can be put to use in the Children’s Ministry.

COLLEGE CARE

We offer encouragement to our college students by remaining in contact, making them aware of special events at Woodlawn, and sending occasional care packages. For more information, contact Sarah Brown at lydia223@sbcglobal.net

COMPUTER OPERATORS

We are looking for computer operators for all four worship services. Only basic computer skills are needed. Training is provided. We are building a volunteer team with a goal of a once a month commitment at either the two contemporary services or the two traditional services.

HOMEBOUND COMMUNION MINISTRY

Our Pastors serve communion by request to those who are homebound.

HOSPITALITY TEAM

The hospitality team serves our church in many ways- from Sunday morning coffee and refreshments to assisting with funeral dinners/receptions. Our hospitality volunteers are some of the first smiling faces you will see when entering the church on a Sunday. If you would like to join them, contact:
Coffee Window: Kelly Gifford
Funeral Team:  Peggy Black

LAY READERS

There is an ongoing opportunity for people to serve as lay readers. Lay readers read the Call to Worship and Moment for Mission in the 9am sanctuary services

LIBRARY

Our library volunteers provide an abundance of Christian reading material and videos. The library also serves as a great resource for educational material.

NEIGHBORHOOD CARE UNITS

Small caring units are created according to neighborhoods and provide care to those who live nearby in times of joy and in times of need.

OPERATION BACK-TO-SCHOOL

Operation Back-to-School provides backpacks and school supplies to needy children in the USD 260 school district. You can help collect supplies and assemble the backpacks.

SOUND BOARD OPERATORS

We are looking for sound board operators for both worship services. If you have an ear for sound and would like to learn this position, this spot is for you, and training is provided. We are building a volunteer team with a goal of a once a month commitment at either the contemporary service or the traditional service. For the contemporary service, it is suggested the operator attend an occasional Wednesday night rehearsal.

STEPHEN MINISTRY

Our specially trained Stephen Ministers offer personalized, confidential, Christian care for all kinds of needs and circumstances. Contact Roylene Klein at 316-250-0135 for more information.
